Miley Cyrus Loves 'Hood Music' and Wants An 'Urban Sound That Feels Black'

Excerpts from her Billboard Magazine interview:

On Loving Hood Music and Being “The White Nicki Minaj”:

“A lot of people wanted to try to make me the white Nicki Minaj. That’s not what I’m trying to do. I love ‘hood’ music, but my talent is as a singer.”

On Critics Who Say She’s Losing Herself:

“That’s been kind of a trip: It’s not like I’m losing who I am — I actually found out more about who I am by making this music. I’m going on a journey, and that’s more than a lot of 20-year-olds can say. And I’m still going to change so much. Because I’m not the same person I was six months ago — I’m not even the same person I was two weeks ago.”

On Her New Song, “We Can’t Stop,” Produced by Mike Will Made It:

“I’m 20 years old and I want to talk to the people that are up all night with their friends. It’s based on a true story of a crazy night I had: When I heard the song for the first time, it captured exactly what I was living. I didn’t make this song for the critics, but for the people living it.”

On Her Urban Influence:

“I’ve always wanted country-rock influences, but now I’m moving over to a more urban side. It’s not a hip-hop album, though-it’s a pop album. I’m not coming in trying to rap. It’s more like, ‘I don’t see any girls out there doing what Miguel and Frank Ocean are doing.’”

Excerpt fromsongwriters Timothy and Theron’s Vibe Magazine interview

Recently, the songwriters of the new record “We Can’t Stop,” which Rihanna passed on and was later given to Miley, had this to say“When you listen to the Miley Cyrus record that we did, it’s not ratchet but it definitely has a lot of urban feel to it,” Timothy said. “She was like, ‘I want urban, I just want something that just feels Black.’”

Miguel’s Private Concert

Everytime I go to a concert, I always make sure I get a spot in the front. Today was a different story…well kinda. I had a wholeee bunch of tall people in front of little ol me.

The Lord must’ve felt what I was experiencing. He stepped back real quick, and was like “don’t worry I got u.” We here *pointing back and forth at our eyes*

At least 1 min. after that, everybody moved outta my way. It was like the Lord parted that red sea and gave me a path. Basically, some guy asked the crowd “who wants to meet Miguel?” Everybody raised their hand but me. When they slipped out of those spaces, I slipped right on in.

Fast Forward.

While the concert was going on, some girl was in the middle of the crowd and homegirl couldn’t see jack cuz she’s short. So I decided to take a couple of pics for her on her iPhone. (I hope they came out clear).

The end.
