I really love how jazz artists could just come together and collaborate. I’m sure there was competition but they were true collaboration. I always wonder what it was like in the Kind of Blue sessions, to see Miles and Coltrane to legendary pioneers working together
Interestingly enough, Miles Davis was actually quite abusive. You can track his temperament through his relationships and also the fact he could box like a professional. But he did actually beat up Coltrane one time, and his relationships with other musicians were strained. As much as his talent and innovation can’t be denied (within the music) he was controlling. Which I think lead to strains, in and outside of it. I’m sure the way many artists were also hooked on drugs played a big part in it too.
